    Position Overview

     

    Assessments Australia, a MAX Solutions company, is contracted to provide the Assessment Service for the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD-AS) for the Victorian Department of Education and Training. Staff and contractor assessors conduct cognitive and speech pathology assessments in state government schools to ascertain eligibility to apply for support under the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD).

    Overview

    The primary function of the Senior Psychologist: Program for Students with Disabilities Assessment Service (PSD-AS) is to work collaboratively with the Professional Services Team to manage workflow and meet the needs of the assessment service. This requires a flexible approach to work demands throughout the year, with a varied focus on cognitive assessments, screening, peer reviews, and responding to enquiries.

     

    This position can be full time or part time (3 days p/wk). Please ensure you include your preference in your application.

    Responsibilities

    Key Responsibilities

     

    Key responsibilities of this position require the successful candidate to:

     

    • Fully understand the scope, outcomes and deliverables of the assessment process
    • Fully understand eligibility criteria for the two PSD-AS categories (i.e. ID and SLD-CEN)
    • Support staff and contractors to ensure that all assessors have the appropriate level of expertise and resources
    • Screen student referrals from schools using informed clinical judgement to determine their appropriateness to progress to assessment
    • Provide support and consultation to school staff with enquiries about the screen out process, assessment results, and diagnostic decisions
    • Provide information and consultation to school staff and stakeholders with regard to the role of the PSD-AS, appropriateness of referrals, and PSD criteria for ID and SLD
    • Provide telephone consultation to assist contract assessors with complex cases, where a diagnosis or satisfaction of PSD eligibility criteria is not clear
    • Conduct peer reviews on completed reports ensuring compliance with DET (PSD) requirements and AA standards
    • Conduct assessments in schools as required, providing relevant and tailored feedback to parents and high quality written reports
    • Demonstrate knowledge and competence with a variety of assessment tools to meet the needs for each referral
    • Support the Professional Services Manager and colleagues in the Professional Services Team and Support Team as required
    • Contribute to discussions around continuous improvements to the delivery of the PSD-AS
    • Work flexibly to meet the fluctuating needs of the program throughout the year
    • Work independently to manage workload and make informed clinical decisions; involve others when appropriate and after utilising personal resources
    • Support the project to ensure that it delivers appropriate results that are in keeping with all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • Participate in training and professional development activities as required
    • Comply with all WHS procedures ensuring that team members including volunteers and contractors abide by all relevant health and safety procedures
    • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviours and report all accidents, incidents or near misses immediately.

    Key Skills

     

    • Experience conducting standardised assessments: WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, WAIS-IV, Vineland
    • Experience working with school aged children and adolescents
    • Ability to provide constructive feedback to colleagues and identify areas for improvement
    • Strong assessment and report writing skills (quality and efficiency)
    • Ability to prioritise, plan and organise workflow to tight timeframes, handle multiple tasks and be flexible with changing priorities
    • Proven high level IT literacy, particularly in common applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), database and web usages.

     

    Required Experience

     

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience conducting standardised assessments: WPPSI, WISC, WAIS, Vineland
    • Experience working with school-aged children and adolescents
    • Desirable but not essential is experience working in a leadership or supervisory role
    • Desirable but not essential is experience in the education, special education, or disability fields and proven experience supporting allied health professional staff or contractors.

     

    Qualifications/Requirements - Mandatory

     

    • Full registration as a psychologist with AHPRA
    • Hold or have the ability to obtain a current Police Clearance and Working with Children Check
    • Willingness to provide two de-identified assessment reports.

     

    Qualifications/Requirements – Preferred but not essential

     

    • Reliable vehicle and full driver’s licence.
