    Position Overview


    The ADF Career Transition Mentor is responsible for working closely with Australian Defence Force Transition Services Staff as they move from an administration business model to a model of coaching and mentoring, with a focus on career advice to help defence service personal gain employment on departure from the services.


    Key Responsibilities


    • Provide mentoring to transitions officers as they undertake interviews of ADF members to prepare them for separation, advise them of administrative processes and assess for CTAS eligibility
    • Provide mentoring to transition officers to reshape the services to include an employment focus
    • Provide mentoring to transition officers as they undertake interviews of ADF members to prepare the members for separation from the services
    • Assist transition officers to develop an understanding of the labour market, including occupations in demand, industry sectors forecast to grow, transferable skills, career guidance and provide further support on finding a job and to build job readiness as required
    • Research the local and national labour market collating this information into a MAX resource library that can be accessed by all ADF sites
    • Research job requirements and examples of transferable skills and collect articles that can be loaded into the MAX resource library
    • Provide information regarding seeking employment in the civilian labour force
    • Provide information regarding training opportunities including traineeship apprenticeships and other government funded initiatives
    • Share resources and collaborate with mentors in other sites
    • Develop an understanding of the ADF Transition Handbook, website and other material used to promote the services of the ADF Transition centre
    • Provide information relevant to Centrelink and jobactive services
    • Provide mentoring and on-the-job coaching services on a one-to-one basis and a one-to-small group basis
    • Actively work with ADF transition officers to support them through their studies (Cert IV in Career Development)
    • Coordinate and monitor effectiveness of support
    • Ensure comments and feedback are reported fortnightly to the GM Training
    • Ensure signed and verified timesheets are emailed to MAX Solutions Training administration at the end of every fortnight for billing purposes.

    Required Experience

    • Previous mentoring and/or employment services experience highly desirable
    • Demonstrated experience building rapport with internal and external stakeholders
    • Demonstrated ability to work within employment services
    • Previous industry experience is highly desirable


    • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment highly desirable
    • Qualification in Employment Services or Career Development or Community Services highly desirable
    • Must have current driving licence


    • Ability to pass National Criminal History Check
